Sharon, thanks for visiting my blog.
This year, my son and I planned camping too late. He wanted to go; I wanted to go. Forgot about the hubby. We didn't tell him at all. But then, right when we were planning the campout to our favorite campsite, our local newspaper featured the campsite as infested with black bears. Yup! Somehow, black bears were out and about in neighborhoods looking for food. But we are talking coastal towns.
So, we decided it's not worth our peace and quiet and fun if there were going to be bears hanging out. I probably won't be able to sleep at night in my tent knowing the bears will be around.
Next year, I'll try to remember to start planning in and around March. It would probably a different campsite.
Good luck with next year's camping! Leave the husband home.

I read your reply to metroman which was great.

I just came home from a camping trip that was cut short by my husband complaining about it so much and I'm so disappointed. I also have an only child who's 9 and we love both camping. We bought a tent trailer this summer; so, I thought everything would be great. The weather wasn't (it rained alot, mainly at night) and the husband had a sore back. He's says I might feel the same way he does in a few years (he's 51). No! I don't think so.
